Last week our fourth graders participated in their annual Wax Museum Project in which they researched, wrote a report, and presented (in character) their famous person to their peers and parents in a “Wax Museum” gallery. Famous characters came to life with a push of a paper button, sharing their life stories, their contributions to society, and their interests. Featured characters ranged from Paul Revere to Susan B. Anthony to Mario Lemieux. The fourth graders put forth considerable effort and creativity into their projects. Kudos to the 4th graders and their teachers for a job well done!

Recently, some fourth graders and fifth graders got together at HMS to produce a podcast where the fourth graders asked the fifth graders about the middle school and the transition from 4th grade to 5th grade. It was a great experience and provided helpful information for students making the transition between HCS and HMS. Give a listen to their podcast here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pBxdwba-OdbsvW-Tj47we7FhPTRZ-13W/view?usp=sharing

Our fourth graders took a field trip to Parker River Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport, MA. Students were able to complete an outdoor scavenger hunt, visit a flower dissection table, create milkweed seed bombs for butterflies, and view the pollination mural in progress. They also enjoyed a presentation about pollinators and learned about the refuge at the Visitor’s Center. Our fourth graders represented Hampstead well and were excited to learn and explore!

Recently HCS students joined up with Mr. Remillard and his students from HMS to prep our courtyard raised beds for planting. Students planted seeds and learned about how seeds grow and gardening techniques. This hands- on, inter-school activity was made possible with the Hampstead Garden Club's Gorham Grant. Thank you!

Last week, HCS hosted a “No Brain the Same" assembly. This engaging presentation taught students about how every brain is unique and how we all learn, think, and feel differently. The assembly promoted empathy, understanding, and inclusion by helping children recognize and appreciate the strengths and challenges of others. Thank you to all the community organizations that helped to bring this presentation to our school!

Last week Gr 1 students hosted their annual Grade 1 Mall! Students sold and bought various items for a few cents a piece. This activity gave the students the opportunity to apply what they learned in math class in a practical way. Their math study included coins, counting coins, values, and making change. It also gave them the opportunity to have fun and be creative! Included in the mall was even an arcade! It was a fun event for all the students!

HCS One School, One Book - whole school read! For four weeks all students and staff at HCS will read "The Sasquatch Escape" by Suzanne Selfors. This story follows a boy named Ben who is facing the most boring summer vacation ever. He is staying with his grandfather he hardly knows in a rundown town called Buttonville. But then the family cat brings home an injured baby dragon so Ben and his new friend Pearl visit the only veterinarian in town and then discover that there is nothing boring about this unusual animal hospital.
