This week, fourth graders participated in "The Math Trail". An activity that was originally developed in 2010 by Mrs. Sugrue and redesigned this year by Mrs. Burkett. The Math Trail is a sequence of stops along a preplanned route around HCS where students look at math in their environment. They worked cooperatively in a group and used what they have learned in the classroom to solve problems in the “real world”. Students visited 10 stops in the HCS building and on HCS grounds including a bat box, the husky mascot wall, and the nurse's office.

After reading about solar energy in literacy, Mrs. Lazzaro's second grade students engineered solar ovens to make delicious summer treats!

Congratulations Keelyn K. and Katie F., our two New England League of Middle Schools Scholar Leader winners! You make us proud!

The boys hawks lacrosse team traveled to Hudson yesterday to compete in the Tri-County Division 2 Championship game against a very competitive PMA team. The boys played their hearts out but unfortunately fell short losing 9-8. Landon O stood on his head in net keeping the Hawks in the game. Myles B and Quinn B both had hat tricks while Cam S scored two. The boys proudly finished second, in their inaugural season at HMS which is an incredible feat. Hold your heads high boys, you earned it.

The girls lacrosse season ended on Fri in the semis against Rundlett. Lea M + Sidney B were able to get the ball in the net. Goalie, Tess M had countless saves that helped us have a fighting chance. Brynnley M played her heart out! The girls left it all out on the field.

The boys Hawks lacrosse team traveled to Auburn on Friday to play in their first semi final game in school history. The team went down early on however dug deep and battled back knocking on Auburn’s door throughout the game. With only a couple of minutes remaining in the match the Hawks evened the score at 7. At the one minute mark the boys had gained possession once again and were attempting to take the lead. With only seconds remaining Cam S scooped a loose ball in-front of the crease and buried a shot sending the first ever HMS boys lacrosse team to the championship game. From the goal tending to the attack each and every player laid everything on the line and executed their positions perfectly. Only one more game is standing between us and completing our season goal, winning it all.

The hawks dominated at the plate with 18 hits - led by Kayla O with 4 hits (a triple, double + 2 singles). Lydia U had 4 singles + Addie M had 2 singles. Charlise L had a homer + Emelyn L a single. Tough defense from Avery B in left field with an outstanding catch. Ashtyn E turned a double + Kendall L dominated on the mound + hit 2 singles.

The Hawks boys lacrosse team played Derryfield in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. They were able to make short work of their opponent and come away with a 10-3 win. The entire team contributed to the first ever playoff game in school history. In addition to the win the 8th graders were honored in a “senior night.” Those that are departing from us to advance their skills at Pinkerton are Landon O, Cam S, Myles B, Justin B, Ben W, Anthony P, Aiden L and Callum E. Congratulations to you all. Now let’s get after it in the semi finals.

Girls lacrosse played an incredible game yesterday vs. Auburn beating them 7-11. Thanks to Tess M’s epic saves in net! Lea M + Emilia S helped make this victory possible with 4 goals each. Emily S, Leah A, and Sidney B added 1 ea. to the tally. This was the best game yet!
